Garbage, recycling, and yard waste will not be collected on Thursday, Nov. 23rd in observance of Thanksgiving. Regular collection will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week, with Friday collection occurring on Saturday. Learn more >>

Winter Collection: Jan. 1-12, 2024.

As a reminder, collection is delayed by one day the week of New Year's Day due to the holiday.

Compost It! winter collection is your opportunity to recycle your live Christmas tree and any remaining yard waste.

To ensure your tree and yard waste gets collected, follow these simple steps:

  • Remove decor: Remove all decorations from your tree and attach one Compost It! sticker. Wreaths and garland Christmas treeare not accepted.
  • Bag it, tag it, or wheel it: Put yard waste in a Compost It! bag or a store-brand bag with a Compost It! sticker attached. If you have the Compost It! cart service, you can put your yard waste in it. 
  • Set out on time: Set your tree and yard waste at the curb by 6 AM on your regular collection day. Winter collection occurs Jan. 1-12, 2024. 

Need a Compost It! sticker or bag? Stickers are sold at participating grocery and hardware stores for $1.50.

Urbandale does NOT require a Compost It! sticker on the trees, however stickers are required for store-brand yard waste bags.
